Former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has reached an agreement with the Football Association to become the next England manager following the departure of Gareth Southgate this summer.
Softfootball added that Tuchel’s appointment marks a significant move by the FA as it looks to build on England’s recent success under Southgate. The German tactician is expected to lead the Three Lions into the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign after agreeing terms with the governing body.

The FA are set to hold a news conference at Wembley on Wednesday, where Tuchel is expected to be officially unveiled as Southgate’s successor.
Following Southgate’s exit, the FA appointed Lee Carsley on an interim basis for England’s UEFA Nations League fixtures while exploring permanent options, with Tuchel and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola among the leading candidates.
Tuchel has been without a club since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, having previously guided Chelsea to UEFA Champions League glory in 2021.
The 51-year-old will become the third foreign-born manager and the first German to take charge of the England national team.
