Tottenham Hotspur’s unbeaten start to the English Premier League season ended spectacularly as Bournemouth defeated them 1-nil at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They also introduced their latest signing, Xavi Simons, to the Lillywhite faithful before the match in what was a bittersweet moment in the story.
The visitors scored early when Evanilson’s fifth-minute effort took a heavy deflection off Cristian Romero, sailing over Guglielmo Vicario to go ahead.

The goal, Bournemouth’s second-fastest of the season, immediately rattled Thomas Frank’s side. Spurs, who had opened with back-to-back wins, looked off the pace throughout the first half and failed to register a single attempt before the break. Their defensive discipline, praised after victory at Manchester City last week, deserted them as Antoine Semenyo and David Brooks both missed clear chances to extend the lead.
Softfootball reports that the second half offered little improvement. Bournemouth continued to create chance upon chance, with Brooks hitting the crossbar and Marcus Tavernier almost scoring after a mix-up at the back. Evanilson might have doubled his tally too, heading wide on the stroke of half-time before remaining a constant threat after the restart.

Spurs, meanwhile, struggled badly in the final third. Their first shot on target did not arrive until the 70th minute, when Lucas Bergvall’s soft strike was easily gathered by Djordje Petrovic. Despite late pressure from the hosts, Thomas Frank’s men were never a real threat, and fans grew frustrated inside the stadium as time slowly passed.
After the game, Totteham uploaded the post-match interview of Mohammed Kudus’ reactions via their offical X account, and the Ghanaian claimed that the team did not do enough, and he included himself among the players who did not step up.

The defeat ensured Tottenham did not take a win from their opening three league matches for the first time since 2021–22. Bournemouth, on the other hand, now have back-to-back victories and are level on six points with Spurs after three games. For Frank, this setback is an early reminder of the challenges ahead in building consistency.
