Tottenham Hotspur fans are calling for Will Lankshear to be given a proper first team chance next season after the youngster made an instant impact in their 2-0 pre season win over Reading on Saturday.

The 20-year-old striker opened the scoring in what marked the beginning of the Thomas Frank era at Spurs, nodding in from close range after a clever flick on by Luka Vuskovic from Mohammed Kudus’ corner.

A product of the club’s academy, Lankshear’s sharp instincts and well timed finish have only strengthened supporters’ belief that he deserves a bigger role in the upcoming season.

Thomas Frank was keen to assess Will Lankshear during pre-season, and it didn’t take long for the young striker to make an impression. The 20-year-old has already started making his mark, showing promise and composure in front of goal.

Interestingly, Softfootball understands that Frank had previously tried to sign Lankshear during his time at Brentford, only for Tottenham to beat him to the punch by sealing a £2 million deal to bring the academy talent to North London.

Lankshear has already had a taste of European football with Spurs, finding the net against Galatasaray in the Europa League. However, his night in Turkey was a mixed one, as he was later shown a red card.

He was later sent out on loan to the Championship, where he made 11 appearances at the Hawthorns Stadium, but following his goal against Reading, Spurs supporters are keen for the young striker to get chances in the first team next season.

Softfootball has rounded up some of the reactions from Tottenham Hotspur fans following Will Lankshear’s impressive display in Saturday’s pre-season clash against Reading. The young striker’s performance didn’t go unnoticed, with many fans taking to social media to share their excitement about his potential. See some of reactions below:

I can see Lankshear as our 2nd centre forward this season with Solanke. Richie can go.

Another fan reacted:

Lankshear is much more promising than Scarlett imo. We need another striker, but would keep him in the squad this season. Vuskovic looks 👌 #COYS

Another reaction from a fan:

While Vuskovic and Kudus are rightfully earning praise for their performances, let’s not overlook Will Lankshear he found the net too. Could this be his breakthrough season?

Another fan said:

Will Lankshear is definitely ready for the Premier League. He’s so much like young Kane but with a bigger body.

Proper no 9? Dude, we have one of our own. He scored two goals in Europa League. This guy also scored against Reading. Have faith in this guy, our star boy, Will Lankshear. pic.twitter.com/QXT2eYSx1P

Spurs finished 17th last season, which led to Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal, and Frank’s need for instant results will likely see the Englishman remain in the reserves.
