Tottenham Confirm Champions League Squad as Mathys Tel and James Maddison Left Out

Tottenham Hotspur have announced their 22-man squad for the Champions League group phase, with several notable absentees including new signing Mathys Tel, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma, Radu Drăgușin, and Kota Takai.

Softfootball reports that Thomas Frank had to limit his squad to 22 players instead of the maximum 25 due to UEFA regulations, which require eight locally trained players. Spurs currently only have one club-trained player, goalkeeper Brandon Austin, reducing their options significantly.

The biggest talking point is the omission of Mathys Tel. Injuries have also shaped the squad list. Maddison, who is recovering from an ACL injury, and Kulusevski, sidelined with a knee problem, were both left out, while centre-back Drăgușin is still on the comeback trail after his own ACL issue. New signing Takai also misses out following a foot injury.

Meanwhile, midfielder Yves Bissouma has been excluded for disciplinary reasons and limited involvement under Frank. Reports in Turkey suggest he could be on his way to Galatasaray before the transfer window closes.
