Dominik Szoboszlai’s thunderous free-kick against Arsenal has been voted Liverpool’s Goal of the Month for September 2025. The midfielder’s strike, which came late at Anfield to seal a 1-0 win, took almost 70 percent of the fan vote on the club’s website.
It wasn’t just any free-kick either. With the game still goalless and nerves high, Szoboszlai stepped up from around 30 yards. He whipped the ball over the wall with dip and swerve, leaving Arsenal keeper David Raya standing still. The roar that followed said it all. For Liverpool, it wasn’t just a pretty goal—it was the difference between one point and three.
Softfootball understands that moment helped push the Reds to the top of the Premier League table, keeping their perfect start to the new season alive. Supporters and pundits were quick to call it a stunner, and it’s easy to see why. Technique, confidence, timing it had everything. However, the player himself admitted he took a risk, but there were some massive rewards for those risks.
The win also highlighted Szoboszlai’s growing role in Arne Slot’s side. He’s been lively since the start of the campaign, and now he has his first Goal of the Month award to go with it.

Liverpool made the announcement via the club’s official website.

Dominik Szoboszlai has won Liverpool’s first Goal of the Month award for the 2025-26 season. The No.8’s incredible long-range free-kick to secure the home victory over Arsenal in the Premier League was the No.1 pick in our poll of fans. He collected almost 70 per cent of the votes in recognition of that brilliant effort that settled the clash between last season’s top two late on.
He wasn’t the only candidate. Rio Ngumoha’s dramatic stoppage-time winner at Newcastle finished second in the vote, while Hugo Ekitike’s opener at Wembley in the Community Shield came third. Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa also made the shortlist with their goals against Bournemouth.
For Szoboszlai, though, this one stands out. A first big individual recognition of the season and a strike that already feels like a highlight reel moment. At 24, he’s showing Liverpool fans why he’s seen as one of the most complete midfielders in the league.
