Former Nigerian international Sylvanus Okpala has advised Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface to prioritize scoring goals for the national team, highlighting a stark contrast between his club and international performances.

While Boniface has been prolific in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen this season, he has struggled to replicate that success in the green and white jersey.

Softfootball gathered that Okpala emphasized the primary duty of a center forward is to find the back of the net, noting that Victor Osimhen consistently delivers when called upon, whereas Boniface has yet to open his account for Nigeria.

The former goalkeeper suggested that if scoring proves difficult, Boniface should focus on providing assists to contribute effectively to the team’s attack. He warned against excessive anxiety, advising the striker to remain calm and build confidence gradually, stating that one goal can often lead to another.

Okpala acknowledged the differences in playing style and pressure between club and country but insisted that Boniface needs reassurance and clear communication from the coaching staff.

He believes that with the right mental approach and support, the young striker can overcome his current drought and become a reliable source of goals for the Super Eagles in upcoming crucial qualifiers.
