Tottenham Hotspurs were handed the first heartbreak of the season as they lost 4-3 on penalties to UEFA Champions League champions, PSG. Softfootball watched on as a very interesting game was played in Italy between the two winners of last season’s top European trophies.
Tottenham had started brightly limiting the chances of the PSG attack in the opening minutes ad taking a lead of their own in the 36 minute via Micky van de Ven’s strike off the crossbar. Spurs were running away winners until PSG started striking back in the 85th minute.

Kevin Danso who was part of the three man defense that almost stopped PSG until the 85th minute was gutted about how the game ended. Danso had just joined Spurs permanently this summer following the completion of his loan spell from Lens six month ago.
The Austrian was part of the team that won the 2025 Europa League Cup having played ten matches in total for the Whites during his loan spell with the club. The 26 year old would have loved to start his Tottenham career with a trophy but PSG had other ideas.
The defender reacted to the loss after the game while speaking to the club’s media via their official website.
He said:
“I feel like we were strong on set pieces, caused them loads of problems in and around the box, limited them to few chances and when you play a team with loads of quality players, it will be tough.
“We did our best, played well, a lot of positives to take and it’s now a quick turn around we hope to start in the Premier League as we intend to go on (against Burnley in our opener on Saturday), and finish high up the table.”
Danso will now join his teammates to prepare for the Premier League which kicks off on Saturday against newly promoted side, Burnley. Danso had seen how Spurs finished in the bottom half of the table last season.
