Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke was left out of the squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Fulham after falling ill before kick-off.
Softfootball understands that the England international arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expecting to be involved but was later sent home after feeling unwell.
His absence from both the starting lineup and the substitutes’ bench initially sparked concerns of a possible injury, but Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou later confirmed that illness was the reason behind the late withdrawal.
The Australian coach explained that Solanke was not feeling well when he reported for the match and the club decided it was best for him to return home rather than risk his condition worsening.
Postecoglou added that the club hopes the striker will make a full recovery in time for Tottenham’s next fixture.
The absence of Solanke was a blow for Spurs, with the former Bournemouth forward having established himself as a key figure in the attack since his arrival.
Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham in the London derby, missing the opportunity to strengthen their position in the Premier League standings.
Spurs will now turn their attention to Thursday night’s away trip to Bournemouth, where Solanke could make an emotional return against his former club if he recovers in time. The North London side will be hoping to have the striker available as they look to return to winning ways.
