Liverpool became victorious in a dramatic 1-0 win at Turf Moor as Mohamed Salah was the hero of the hour, scoring a stoppage-time penalty to extend their perfect start to the 2025-26 Premier League season.
Softfootball reported in the game preview that Liverpool needed to win to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season, and the Reds were asking all the questions offensively all game, but found Burnley stubborn in defense. It took until late into the 90th minute for the breakthrough to arrive, thanks to a mistake by Hannibal Mejbri who handled the ball inside the area. Salah calmly sent Martin Dúbravka the wrong way to seal the points and silence the home crowd.
Liverpool posted a video of the match winner taking a selfie on the team’s official X account with the caption “inevitable”.

The victory means Liverpool win each of their first four league games for only the third time in their history, repeating the fast starts of 2018-19 and 2019-20. It also sets a Premier League record, with all four wins coming thanks to goals scored in the last ten minutes or later.
Dominik Szoboszlai was the hero the last time out against Arsenal with his spectacular free kick, winning Liverpool’s goal of the month and again today when Liverpool needed another hero, Mohammed Salah stepped up and duly dispatched his spot kick to bag all three points.

Despite racking up 26 shots, only three found the target before the penalty. Burnley, unbeaten at home since May 2024, frustrated their visitors and even threatened early through Jaidon Anthony. Liverpool’s frustration showed in the first half, with Milos Kerkez booked for a blatant dive before being hooked before halftime.
Arne Slot’s men came out sharper after the break. Ryan Gravenberch forced a strong save, while Conor Bradley and Andrew Robertson combined for a near miss. Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai also went close, but Burnley stood firm until the late handball proved costly.
Liverpool shared on its official X account a video behind the scenes of how fans and players erupted after that Salah’s winner.

For Salah, it was goal number 188 in the Premier League, moving him above Andrew Cole into fourth on the all-time scoring list. Liverpool also stretched their club-record run of scoring to 38 straight matches.
Burnley slip to three defeats from four on their Premier League return, while Liverpool reclaim top spot, three points clear, and keep their flawless record alive.
