Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has expressed confidence in Eric Chelle’s ability to enjoy a successful spell as head coach of the Nigerian national team.
Chelle was appointed as the new Super Eagles manager three weeks ago, with the decision by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) attracting criticism from some sections of the football community.
However, Sadiq believes the federation made the right choice and is optimistic about what the former Mali international can bring to the team.
Softfootball understands that Sadiq closely followed Mali’s performances during the tournament and believes the Super Eagles could benefit from adopting some of the coach’s tactical ideas.
Speaking with Sporty TV, the striker pointed to Chelle’s work with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations as evidence of his coaching ability.
While praising Chelle’s work with the West African nation, Sadiq said:
You can see how they played. They were so good.
The forward further expressed hope that Chelle can bring the same style of football to Nigeria and help the Super Eagles make significant progress.
