Wayne Rooney has expressed his unhappiness over the growing attention surrounding Frank Ilett’s viral haircut challenge, insisting the focus should have been on Manchester United’s performance.

Softfootball had earlier reported that United’s 1:1 draw with West Ham ended hopes of a fifth consecutive Premier League victory a result that also means Ilett’s famous afro remains uncut for now.

Rooney’s frustration is centred on what he believes was misplaced attention. Instead of discussions around Michael Carrick’s attempt to guide United to five straight wins, much of the media narrative revolved around whether Ilett would finally trim his hair.
Here is Rooney’s statement;
I’d put him to the other side of the country, he’s doing my head in. We’re talking about Carrick and United trying to win their fifth game in a row and the whole thing is about this guy getting his haircut. I bet he’d be devastated if United win the fifth game because all of a sudden he’s irrelevant. #MUFC
Rooney believes the hype diluted the importance of what would have been a significant milestone for Carrick and his team. A fifth straight league win would have strengthened United’s momentum and reinforced their growing form under the interim manager.
With the draw against West Ham, both the winning streak and the planned haircut remain on hold. It is still unclear whether Frank Ilett would continue the “no win, no trim” challenge under new conditions, especially as some believe the media buzz might fade once the haircut eventually happens.
