Rob Edwards finally granted his first interview as the head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers which had been long anticipated by fans.
In the interview, Edwards emphasized how much the role meant to him. The job isn’t just another step for Edwards, but it is a dream turning to reality. Rob Edwards returned to Wolves, the club he once played for and coached in various youth and senior roles.

It means a lot. This club’s really special. It’s special anyway, but it’s special to me because it’s where I’ve spent most of my professional career and where I played most of my football. Then to have done a lot of the roles that I’ve done, I’ve got to be honest, this job was always my aim. This is the dream. I know the situation that we’re in right now, but this is just something that I’ve always wanted, and I’m ready for it. I’m ready for the challenge, I’m up for it, and it’s been great getting around everybody, seeing so many faces that I know, and new faces as well He didn’t shy away from the scale of the challenge ahead.
Softfootball reported that Wolves were bottom of the Premier League with just two points from their first 10 games before he arrived, but Edwards sees it as an opportunity, he said:
I know we’re in a difficult spot, but there are still 27 games to go, so there’s an opportunity here for us to do something really special, and that appeals to me. I’ve always been a risk taker, and I’ve always wanted this job, and you don’t know if it’s ever going to come along again, and the opportunity was there right now. It’s going to be difficult, but there’s an opportunity for us to maintain our Premier League status this year and then grow and continue to grow and build as well. He pressed on the need for unity and hard work from everyone in the club. What’s going to help us move forward now is everyone pulling in the same direction. If everyone can see total effort, us leaving it all out there, playing for the badge, playing for pride and showing commitment and effort and spirit, fight and determination; if we can do that, then I think everyone will be able to get on board.
Fans and supporters were not left out either. Edwards acknowledged their frustration and highlighted the importance of backing the players.
I get the frustrations because we’ve not won for a long time. Supporters will travel a long way, they spend a lot of money, and they want to support the team, they want to see the team win and be successful. They only want the team to be successful – that’s it. But if we’re going to move forward and we’re going to get ourselves out of this, the only way to do that is to try and back the players. It’s not going to be perfect because we’re human beings and we’ll make mistakes, but as long as they see the players reacting really well and in the right way, then at least we can get behind that.
With this interview, Rob Edwards has shown that his arrival at Wolves is not simply to manage but to re-build, unite, and lead. With deep ties to Wolverhampton Wanderers, a clear message of ambition, and an understanding of the work required, he’s signalled a fresh start.
The club shared the interview video on their official X handle. Watch below:
