Real Madrid Return to Winning Ways as Mbappé Steps Up Again

3 Min Read

Real Madrid finally managed to grab a win in Greece, beating Olympiacos 4-3 on a crazy night in Piraeus. Before the game, Softfootball reminded everyone how tough Olympiacos usually make things at home, especially for Madrid, so the pressure was already there, and it sort of showed in the early moments.

The club celebrated this win via their official X handle.

Softfootball understands that Real Madrid, who recently played a 2-2 draw in the league against Elche, finally headed back to winning ways, but this time Mbappé more or less dragged them through the fire on his own.

Olympiacos actually started sharper. Chiquinho scored in the eighth minute. Madrid looked a bit lost for a moment, but then Mbappé basically took over the whole match. In a ridiculous seven-minute spell, he scored in the 22nd, 24th and 29th minutes. It wasn’t just quick; it was historic, the second-fastest hat trick the Champions League has ever seen.

Even after going behind so suddenly, Olympiacos didn’t go away. They pushed up again in the second half, got another goal through Taremi in the 52nd minute, and honestly had Madrid wobbling.

Mbappé scored his fourth in the 60th minute, which should’ve settled it, but somehow the game stayed tense right to the finish Ayoub El Kaabi pulled one back for his team in the 81st minute, and Olympiacos missed a really big chance in stoppage time that could’ve made it 4-4.

Madrid’s problems at the back showed up again. Thibaut Courtois didn’t feature in the game due to injury, leaving Andriy Lunin to start. Franco Mastantuono was ruled out, adding to all the other injuries like Militao, Carvajal and Tchouameni.

But even with all that, Madrid will take this win. They had never won in Greece before, and breaking that streak in a game this wild, with Mbappé producing something you don’t really see often, gives it a different kind of weight. For Olympiacos, the fight they showed wasn’t empty.

They’re still pushing to make the knockout round, and the performance at least keeps them in that conversation.
