Real Madrid have reportedly made contact with Arsenal over a possible move for William Saliba as they continue to plan an ambitious defensive rebuild for 2025.

Softfootball said that Real Madrid are also eyeing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández as part of their wider midfield revamp plans. The Spanish giants appear to be preparing for a major squad refresh, with Saliba and Enzo both seen as players who could strengthen key areas of the team.

Saliba has become one of Arsenal’s most important players under Mikel Arteta. The French defender has played a major role in the club’s rise in recent seasons and is now regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe.

Reports claim Madrid have made early contact with the player’s entourage as they explore the possibility of bringing him to the Santiago Bernabeu. The France international could be seen as a long-term replacement for Antonio Rudiger, who remains important to Real Madrid but is not getting any younger.

Saliba’s contract with Arsenal runs until 2027, which gives the Gunners some protection and means they are under no immediate pressure to sell. However, interest from a club like Real Madrid will still be a concern for Arsenal supporters.

The situation could become a major test for Arsenal’s new era under Arteta. The club have worked hard to move away from the days when they regularly lost key players to bigger European rivals.

In the past, Arsenal suffered painful exits involving stars such as Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie. Losing Saliba would feel like a similar blow, especially given how important he has become to Arteta’s project.

For now, Arsenal will hope to keep hold of their defensive leader, while Real Madrid continue to monitor possible signings for the future.
