Softfootball understands that Real Madrid booked their place in the 2026 Supercopa de España final with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over city rivals Atlético Madrid, following their recent 2–0 victory against Sevilla in La Liga, setting up yet another El Clásico showdown with Barcelona, who recently defeated Athletic Club 5-0.

After the game Real Madrid shared a post about the result via their official X account.

For the 13-time Supercopa winners, it was a performance built on early brilliance, resilience, and just enough control when things got uncomfortable.

Xabi Alonso had warned Atlético beforehand that his side would show their best version, and Real wasted no time backing up that message. In two minutes, Federico Valverde produced a moment of pure quality, stepping up from nearly 35 yards and smashing a stunning free kick into the roof of Jan Oblak’s net.

To their credit, Diego Simeone’s side responded with purpose rather than panic. They began to push higher and enjoy more of the ball, but Real remained dangerous on the break. A rapid counter saw Rodrygo glide into the box, sending a defender the wrong way, only for Oblak to deny him with a sharp save.

Atlético’s best spell came midway through the first half, forcing Thibaut Courtois into action. The Belgian first palmed away Álex Baena’s long-range effort, then somehow clawed away Alexander Sørloth’s flicked header from a corner. Moments later, Sørloth headed over from close range when it seemed easier to score.

Those misses proved costly. Despite Atlético’s pressure, Real struck again shortly after the restart. Rodrygo collected Valverde’s pass, skipped past a loose Robin Le Normand challenge and finished calmly past Oblak.

However, the two-goal cushion barely settled. Three minutes later, Sørloth rose highest in the six-yard box to head home Giuliano Simeone’s inviting cross, dragging Atlético back into the contest.

The closing stages were tense, scrappy at times. Courtois denied Sørloth again at the near post, while Antoine Griezmann’s overhead kick flew wide, another chance gone.

Atlético pushed, Real resisted, and that was that. A third semi-final exit in four editions for Simeone’s men, while Real march on. Now comes Barcelona, a repeat of last season’s final, and one Madrid will badly want to rewrite.
