PSG new signing Chevalier sets focus on first silverware ahead of Super Cup

PSG’s new signing, Lucas Chevalier, has said he is “immensely proud” to join Paris Saint-Germain and is already aiming to lift his first major trophy with the French champions when they play Tottenham for the Super Cup title, Softfootball reports.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper completed his move from Lille this summer, stepping into the No.1 role, overtaking outcast Gianluigi Donnarumma. The deal was said to be worth €40 million for the French goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Chevalier has said the decision to leave his home region in the north for the capital was made easier by PSG’s current stature and ambition.

This was captured by Softfootball during the French goalkeeper’s interview with the club’s media team ahead of the Super Cup game against Tottenham on Wednesday in Italy.

Chevalier, who had a sterling season in the 2024-2025 football season, said it’s a new beginning which is set to shape his career.

Here is what he told the PSG media team

“When the best team of the year, maybe even the best in the world, comes calling, it’s hard to say no.”

“The staff, the training facilities, the management everything is top level. I’m an ambitious player, and I know I can achieve great things here. I felt it was the right moment to take the next step, and I want to win my first title as quickly as possible.”

Chevalier spent three seasons at Lille, impressing with his shot-stopping, distribution, and calm presence under pressure. He has never beaten PSG, but admits those encounters, particularly at the Parc des Princes, left a lasting impression.

He continued:

“The atmosphere is unique.” “They’re clearly the best team in France and probably in Europe. To be lucky enough to join them is exceptional.”

A key factor in his decision was the opportunity to work with coach Luis Enrique, whose style demands an active role from goalkeepers.

Chevalier explained:

“He believes I can add real value, and that motivates me even more.”

“I love his energy on the touchline, the unity he brings, and the way he celebrates goals. I’m ready to repay the faith he’s shown in me.”

The move also keeps him in France, which he believes benefits his development and his national team prospects.

He said:

“A French goalkeeper at Paris is always positive” “It’s good for me, good for the club, and good for the selection. I want to perform at the highest level for both PSG and Les Bleus.”

His journey has been rapid, from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1, Champions League football, and a first senior France call-up in just over three years, but Chevalier credits hard work, a strong support system, and good timing.

The young shot-stopper will be eyeing his first major trophy on Wednesday, as he is expected to be in action with the Champions League winners in the UEFA Super Cup clash against English side Tottenham Hotspur.
