PSG Beat Lens 2-1 to Keep Perfect Ligue 1 Start Alive

PSG continues their strong start to the 2024-25 Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Lens at the Parc des Princes on Sunday. Softfootball understands that the result stretches PSG’s winning streak against Lens to five matches, their best run in history against the club.

PSG strolled to a commanding 6-3 victory over Toulouse the last time out in the league, and despite Luis Enrique being absent from the dugout for the first half after suffering a bicycle accident during the international break, the Parisans had no real problem despite starting the game very slowly.

Lens nearly struck first when Florian Thauvin tested Lucas Chevalier with a free kick, but PSG showed their efficiency moments later. Bradley Barcola, fresh off a productive international window with France were he scored, curled home from the edge of the box with his first real sight of goal.

Paris Saint-Germain were excited to return to the Parc des Princes with a victory and expressed their excitement via the team’s official X handle.

There was concern soon after as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia limped off with an injury, adding to a growing list of absentees a situation that was pointed out in the game’s review. His replacement, Ibrahim Mbaye, almost made an immediate impact but was denied by Robin Risser. The Lens keeper was kept busy, also stopping a Gonçalo Ramos effort before half-time.

Six minutes into the second half, Barcola struck again. Released by Vitinha, the winger fired low into the corner to double PSG’s lead and underline his superb form. Lens, however, refused to fold. Thauvin remained their most dangerous outlet, and the visitors eventually pulled one back to keep the game alive heading into the final stages.

Despite the late pressure, PSG held firm to secure the points, though Lucas Beraldo’s injury late on added to their worries. With wins already over Nantes and Angers, PSG’s momentum in Ligue 1 remains intact, while Lens were left frustrated in their pursuit of a third straight league victory a run they last achieved nearly a year ago.
