Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has made clear he has no intention of following in Antonio Conte’s footsteps by talking his way out of his position at the club.
Postecoglou’s recent comments have drawn comparisons to Conte’s infamous outburst before his own departure from Spurs, though the Australian insists his approach comes from a different place entirely.
Softfootball understands he addressed the comparisons directly while speaking to the club’s official website. He said:
I was well aware of it, referring to Conte. I think you know when a manager gets to that point that there are obviously some underlying issues.
Antonio is a world-class manager, and I think most of the time when managers do that, they’re trying to get a reaction.
Postecoglou explained that leaders sometimes need to send a message during difficult moments, even if it draws external criticism. He added:
In difficult moments, what you want from your leaders is action rather than inaction of just letting things drift along.
We’ve all been in that situation as a manager where you feel, this is the time to send a message.
