Philippe Coutinho has decided to leave Vasco da Gama with immediate effect after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. The development has been confirmed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle.
he stated:
Philippe Coutinho has decided to leave Vasco da Gama with immediate effect by mutual agreement. He’s set to be available as free agent.
Softfootball understands that the former Liverpool F.C., FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich star personally requested the termination of his deal after becoming increasingly unhappy at the Brazilian club.
Coutinho returned to his hometown side in 2024 following spells with Aston Villa F.C. and a loan stint at Al-Duhail SC. A contract termination with Villa later allowed him to make the switch back to Vasco permanent.
Despite registering 17 goals in 80 appearances since his return, Coutinho reportedly grew unsettled amid mounting criticism from supporters and local media.

According to reports, the attacking midfielder informed club president Pedrinho directly of his desire to leave, describing his current state of mind as “irreversible.”
Vasco are said to have attempted to convince him to reconsider, especially as renewal talks had begun. However, recent boos from fans and sustained criticism appear to have made his position untenable.
Coutinho is now set to explore new opportunities as a free agent.
Still on transfer developments, Barcelona are preparing to negotiate a reduction of Marcus Rashford’s €30m buy option from Manchester United.
Meanwhile in Spain, Kylian Mbappé has reportedly testified against Gianluca Prestianni over alleged racist abuse directed at Vinícius Júnior during Real Madrid CF’s February 17, 2026 clash with S.L. Benfica in the UEFA Champions League.
