Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar is in a stable condition at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in São Paulo after a frightening cardiac incident during pre-season fitness tests on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Softfootball gathered that the 34-year-old reportedly collapsed while taking part in an interval test on an exercise bike at São Paulo FC’s training ground, losing consciousness for almost two minutes before being revived by the club’s medical staff.
In a statement, São Paulo FC confirmed that the player had shown “cardiological changes” during the session and was given immediate medical attention before being rushed to hospital. Oscar was initially admitted to the ICU but has since been stabilised. He’s now under close observation as doctors carry out further tests to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Oscar’s situation has understandably shaken the club and its supporters. Having rejoined São Paulo, where his professional journey began, in December 2024 on a three-year deal, he was preparing for what many saw as a final chapter of an illustrious career. However, sources close to the player reveal he’s now considering retirement, prioritising his health and family over football.

Club director Carlos Belmonte revealed that right now, all that matters is Oscar’s well-being, and if he chooses to retire, the club will stand behind him completely. The midfielder, father of two with his wife Ludmila, who is expecting their third child, faces what could be a life-changing decision.
Meanwhile, Chelsea FC, where Oscar made over 200 appearances and won three major trophies between 2012 and 2017, took a break from their recent Blue Christmas campaign to release a message of support for the player via their official X account, wishing the Brazilian well, and once again showing their empathetic side following their tribute campaign in honour of the Armed Forces.
They posted:
The thoughts of everyone at Chelsea FC are with our former player Oscar and his family at this difficult time. 💙 https://t.co/CfGER4pwbj
