Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has reiterated his opposition to the appointment of foreign coaches to manage Nigeria’s senior national team. Softfootball reports that Oliseh believes Nigerian football should place greater trust in its own coaches rather than continually looking outside the country for technical leadership.
The former midfielder previously managed the Super Eagles and therefore understands the demands associated with the national-team job. His comments come amid continued debate about the best coaching structure for Nigeria as the team pursues qualification for major international tournaments.
Nigeria have traditionally alternated between local and foreign coaches, with several expatriate managers taking charge during different periods. Supporters remain divided over which approach offers the best chance of producing consistent results.
Oliseh’s position reflects a wider argument that Nigerian coaches need greater opportunities to develop and manage at the highest level. Advocates of local coaches often point to their understanding of the domestic football environment, player development and national-team culture.
