Nottingham Forest released an statement via their official X handle on the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo. It read:

Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as Head Coach.

The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club.

As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.

Softfootball had earlier reported on Nuno Espírito Santo and Nottingham Forest parting ways, according to a scoop by Fabrizio Romano but the club had not confirmed the news until now.

This brings the working relationship of the manager and the club to an end. However, history would remember that the sack was not based on poor performance but a breakdown in relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis.

The Greek owner embarrassingly scolded the manager on the pitch in front of the fans after they drew their final home match of the 2024/25 season. From then, it was a feisty relationship between the two and this summer, players were even recruited without the manager’s approval.

Players like Anthony Elanga were sold to Newcastle United against the managers wishes and current club captain Morgan Gibbs-White was almost sold to Tottenham until the club stopped it at the last minute.

It was inevitable that Nuno would leave at some point because the environment became very hostile for him as everything he does is questioned by the owner who was very involved in the day to day running of the club.

Meanwhile, one of the new players that arrived this summer, Dan Ndoye has won Nottingham Forest Goal of the month for August.

Coincidentally, it was his first goal this season. It came against Brentford on the opening day of the season as they began their campaign with a comprehensive 3-1 victory. His goal was the third with a diving header that went past Caoimhín Kelleher in goal for the Brentford.

Ndoye beat competition from the team’s topscorer, Chris Wood, Archie Whitehall and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Ndoye has taken his scoring prowess to the international front as he scored yesterday for Switzerland in their 3-0 victory over Slovenia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
