Brazilian forward Neymar is reportedly edging closer to a return to Santos, the club where he began his professional career.
The 32-year-old remains contracted to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, but his future at the club has become uncertain after he was left out of their Saudi Pro League squad.
According to Softfootball, Neymar’s contract with Al Hilal could be terminated as discussions continue over the final details of his departure.
The Brazilian is expected to sign a six-month deal with Santos, with an option to extend his stay for another year if an agreement is completed.
Neymar has been searching for a new opportunity after Al Hilal manager Jorge Jesus questioned whether the forward could still perform at the level expected of him.
If the proposed move goes through, Neymar could return to Brazil this week and potentially make his Santos comeback as early as February 5.
Ending his Al Hilal contract would reportedly mean giving up around $65 million, although the player is believed to be exploring ways to recover part of the financial loss.
