Newcastle United have agreed a £55m fee with Nottingham Forest for Sweden winger Anthony Elanga. Softfootball has been hinted that with this agreement the transfer will be completed before the end of this week, with unveiling lined up for the weekend.
The Athletic wrote that Forest are believed to have paid £15m to sign Elanga from Manchester United on a five-year-deal in 2023.
The Magpies were keen on adding Elanga to their squad to strengthen their attacking options as they prepare for their return to the Champions League following a fifth-placed Premier League finish last season.

Despite their huge need to buy, Newcastle have yet to pay a fee for a player this summer, with 18-year-old Spanish winger Antonio Cordero, the only new arrival on a free transfer from Malaga. The club are looking to play by the financial sustainability rules.
Elanga, 23, scored six goals and produced 11 assists for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side during their successful 2024-25 Premier League season where they only missed out on continental places by whiskers, playing all 38 of Forest’s games.
Forest had rejected a lower bid worth £45million ($61.2m) in June. In 2024, Newcastle were willing to pay a fee worth around £45million ($61.2m), with the potential package including an initial £30m ($40.8) payment, a swap deal for Paraguay winger Miguel Almiron (valued at £5m, and who has subsequently joined Atlanta United) and two potential further payments of £5m.
Softfootball had been following the Newcastle-Forest battle on Elanga as it reported how the Magpies were on the verge of completing the deal but minor details were left to finalize.
Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, with talks progressing positively and hopes high that a deal could be finalised by the weekend.
Confidence is quietly building at St James’ Park, especially as fresh details emerge about a surprising twist. Forest boss Nuno Espírito Santo was reportedly keen on landing a player from Newcastle in return as part of the deal.
