Softfootball can confirm that Napoli has placed an €85 million release clause into the contract of Rasmus Højlund, though the clause will only become valid from the summer of 2027. The structure of the deal means any club triggering the option would have to respect a payment schedule spread across three years.
Højlund, who joined Napoli earlier this summer after leaving Manchester United for a €6 million loan fee plus a buy fee of €44 million, has been projected to be double the price by the Italian side in two years.
Hojlund was forced out of the English club Manchester United, who made their intentions known that they don’t need the Danish striker following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko. He only scored nine goals in his debut Premier League season, with the 22-year-old, who suffered a couple of injury breaks during his spell at United.

As revealed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on his X handle this evening, Hojlund’s release clause is double the price Napoli paid for his services and less than the amount received from Galatasaray for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Fabrizio said:
The release clause into Rasmus Højlund’s contract at Napoli is worth €85m and only valid from summer 2027.
Understand it’s gonna be split in three years in terms of payment schedule.
Napoli’s deal was a return to the Italian Serie A for Hojlund, who used to play for Atalanta before Manchester United made a swooping €75 million deal to bring the striker to Old Trafford.
However, Hojlund failed to prove himself to the former United boss Erik Ten Hag and the subsequent present manager, Ruben Amorim, and he had to watch most games on the bench. He scored 14 goals in 62 appearances for United during his two-year spell at the club.
