Oliver Kahn has advised Jamal Musiala to consider skipping the 2026 World Cup in order to fully recover from his recent injury setbacks. Musiala has firmly rejected the idea of missing the World Cup, despite Kahn’s caution. This was revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X channel.
In a recent interview, Musiala made it clear that his focus remains on helping Bayern compete for trophies while also representing Germany national football team at the tournament.
Romano revealed:
Oliver Kahn has advised Jamal Musiala not to go to the World Cup to recover his best form. Musiala tells Sky: I definitely want to go to the World Cup! I didn’t read what he said, but I definitely want to go to the World Cup. My focus right now is on helping FC Bayern win everything and then I want to help my country in the summer.
As earlier reported by Softfootball, Musiala suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle during last summer’s Club World Cup, an injury that kept him sidelined for months and significantly impacted his rhythm. Although he returned to action in January, the 23-year-old is still working to regain full confidence and match sharpness.

Concerns over his fitness resurfaced in March when Bayern Munich confirmed he experienced a reaction in his left ankle following a 6–1 win over Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League. The issue was linked to the same injury sustained in July 2025, raising questions about his long-term recovery.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has also weighed in, suggesting that Musiala could still play an important role for both club and country if he maintains a reasonable level of fitness.

The situation highlights the ongoing debate between prioritizing full recovery and fulfilling international ambitions, as Musiala balances his long-term health with his desire to compete on football’s biggest stage.
