José Mourinho has launched a blistering attack on the Turkish Super Lig despite Fenerbahçe’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor on Sunday.
Softfootball understands that the Portuguese tactician’s side snatched all three points deep into stoppage time when Sofyan Amrabat scored a dramatic winner in the 102nd minute.
Former Manchester United midfielder Fred had given Fenerbahce an early lead before Simon Banza converted two penalties to put Trabzonspor ahead. Edin Džeko restored parity in the 75th minute before Amrabat sealed victory in dramatic fashion.
Although Mourinho celebrated wildly on the touchline, even attempting a knee-slide before falling over, his mood changed during his post-match press conference.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss criticised the quality of the Turkish league, claiming it lacks appeal for international audiences and describing it as “too grey” and “too dark.”
Mourinho also directed his frustration at the match officials, particularly VAR referee Atilla Karaoğlan, after Fenerbahce were not awarded a late penalty for an alleged handball by Banza.
The veteran coach later posted footage of the controversial incident on his Instagram account, inviting fans to judge the decision for themselves and suggesting it reflected the current state of officiating in the Turkish Super Lig.
