Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount could be sidelined until March after suffering another injury setback during the club’s dramatic derby victory over Manchester City.
The England international lasted only 14 minutes before being forced off with a leg injury, leaving the pitch visibly emotional after another frustrating blow in his injury-hit spell at Old Trafford.
Softfootball understands reports from talkSPORT suggest the former Chelsea star is expected to miss several months of action, with a return before March considered unlikely.
Manager Ruben Amorim admitted the setback was a significant disappointment but insisted the club would continue supporting the midfielder throughout his recovery. He said:
I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football and you continue.
The Portuguese coach also explained that Mount’s rehabilitation would include tactical work to help him adapt further to United’s system while recovering.
What I can do is help Mase and teach him how to play our game while he’s recovering. If they work hard, we’ll support them until the end,
he added.
