Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has questioned Chelsea’s decision to sign Liam Delap instead of pursuing Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window.
Softfootball reports that Mikel believes Chelsea would have benefited from adding a proven striker of Osimhen’s quality as the club looks to compete for major honours.
The former Chelsea midfielder has previously spoken highly of the Nigerian forward and believes his goalscoring record and experience could have strengthened the London club’s attack.
Chelsea opted to bring in Delap, who impressed during his time at Ipswich Town and earned a move to Stamford Bridge. The England striker is regarded as a promising young forward with considerable potential.

However, Mikel believes Chelsea could have benefited from Osimhen’s immediate experience at the highest level. The Nigerian has established himself as a prolific striker in European football and has attracted interest from several major clubs.
The debate over Chelsea’s attacking options is likely to continue as the club prepares for another demanding season. Delap will now have the opportunity to prove himself and justify the club’s decision.
Mikel, meanwhile, remains convinced that Osimhen would have provided Chelsea with another level of quality in front of goal.
