Victor Osimhen is on his way to Nigeria in a private jet as he begins a period of rest and recovery following the muscle injury that ruled him out of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. The Galatasaray striker was replaced in the squad by Taiwo Awoniyi, who has already joined the Super Eagles camp in Uyo.
Osimhen is travelling in the company of Benin Republic striker Olaitan Junior, who plays for Beşiktaş and will represent Benin in their qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Mauritania.
Super Eagles Step Up Preparations in Uyo
The Super Eagles held their first training session on Tuesday, September 22, under the floodlights at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium training pitch.
Head coach Éric Chelle and his technical crew opted for a recovery‑focused session, mindful of the long travel hours many players had endured before arriving in camp.
The workout featured:
- Agility ladders
- Cones
- Hurdles
The exercises were designed to help players loosen up, shake off jet lag and regain sharpness, with emphasis on coordination, balance, movement and footwork.
Goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Arthur Okonkwo trained under the floodlights alongside the goalkeepers’ trainer.
