Match Report: Messi Shines as Inter Miami Thrash New England 4–1

3 Min Read

Inter Miami wrapped up their regular season in style, beating the New England Revolution 4–1 at Chase Stadium on October 5, 2025. It was a match that lived up to the excitement promised in the Softfootball match preview between Inter Miami and New England Revolution, with Lionel Messi running the show yet again. But even with the win, their dream of lifting the Supporters’ Shield slipped away as Philadelphia Union edged New York City FC 1–0 elsewhere.

Messi was magical from start to finish, creating three assists that showcased his effortless brilliance. Tadeo Allende and Jordi Alba both grabbed braces as Miami’s attack flowed beautifully, much to the delight of the home crowd. The result also came at a time when the club is reportedly closing in on Sergio Reguilón’s deal as reported by Softfootball, a move expected to strengthen their defense for the playoffs.

The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute when Messi slipped a delicate pass through to Allende, who calmly found the bottom corner. Just before halftime, the Argentine pounced on a misplaced pass from goalkeeper Matt Turner, danced into the box, and squared the ball for Alba to finish easily.

New England showed brief life after the break as Dor Turgeman struck from distance in the 59th minute to make it 2–1. But Miami hit back almost immediately. A vintage Messi chip sent Allende through again, and he held his nerve to restore the two-goal cushion. Moments later, substitute Sergio Segovia teed up Alba for his second of the game, sealing a dominant 4–1 scoreline.

The Revolution started strong as Brandon Bye even rattled the crossbar early on, but their momentum faded fast. Miami’s control, pace, and precision were simply too much. The victory leaves Inter Miami third in the Eastern Conference with 59 points, heading into the playoffs full of confidence even if the Supporters’ Shield slipped from their grasp.

A video of special tribute to Sergio Busquets, who recently has announced his retirement from professional football was posted on Inter Miami’s official X account.
