Southampton manager Russell Martin is hopeful Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu will be fit enough to return for Wednesday’s Premier League encounter against Chelsea, softfootball reports.
Onuachu has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during Southampton’s dramatic 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool last month. The Nigerian forward was also unavailable for the Saints’ 1-1 draw away to Brighton & Hove Albion last Friday.

Despite his absence, Martin is optimistic the 30-year-old could make a timely return as Southampton prepare for a difficult test against Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side.
“We’re hopeful that Paul will be involved on Wednesday, which will be good for us,” Martin said, according to Yahoo Sports.
The towering striker has featured six times in the Premier League this season and remains an important option for Southampton, especially with his aerial presence and ability to hold up play.
Although he has endured an injury-hit campaign, Onuachu’s potential return would provide a welcome boost for the Saints as they look to improve their league form against one of the division’s in-form teams.
Southampton will be aiming to upset Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with Martin hoping to have as many key players available as possible for the trip.
Onuachu joined Southampton from Belgian side Genk and has gradually become a valuable member of the squad. His availability would hand Martin another attacking option as the Saints seek a positive result against the Blues.
