Marc Bernal Extends Barcelona Contract Until 2029

It was a bright Monday morning at the FC Barcelona offices when Marc Bernal sealed what he described as the biggest moment of his young career signing a new contract that ties him to the Catalan giants until June 2029.

Fresh from celebrating their position at the top of La Liga standings following their 2-1 comeback victory against Real Sociedad on Sunday, Barcelona fans now have another reason to smile.

Softfootball reports that the 18-year-old midfielder was surrounded by top club officials, including President Joan Laporta, Vice President Rafael Yuste, and Sporting Director Deco, couldn’t hide his excitement as his eyes carried the kind of joy that comes from years of hard work finally paying off.

At last some good news, as things have not been going to plan lately after Hansi Flick confirmed that the team lost Raphinha in the game against Real Oviedo, with Joan Garcia subsequently following suit and also a doubt for the PSG UCL clash.

Speaking to the media after putting pen to paper, Bernal looked back with emotion at how far he’s come from dreaming as a boy to standing in front of the Barça crest as a first-team player.

He said:

This is honestly the happiest day of my life. If anyone had told me two years ago that I’d be here signing a long-term deal with Barça, I wouldn’t have believed it. Since I was little, all I ever wanted was to wear this shirt and now I’ve made that dream real. It’s crazy, really — but beautiful too.

Bernal’s journey hasn’t been without pain. Last season, a serious knee injury ruled him out for several months. Now fully recovered, he’s choosing patience over pressure, knowing his best days are still ahead.

He smiled and added:

It was a tough year, yeah. I had to stay strong and take things step by step. But I’m grateful — the club, my teammates, everyone helped me through it. I’ve learned not to rush; the best version of me will come when it’s time. Sergio Busquets even reached out when I was injured — that message meant a lot. I want to keep growing, winning trophies here, and giving everything for Barça.

As Barça prepare for a tricky clash against PSG, Bernal believes in the team’s spirit and hunger. The young Spaniard’s dream continues one kick, one pass, one step at a time; he has the talent; he just needs to stay fit.
