Manchester United secured a hard fought 1–0 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford in a tense Boxing Day clash. Softfootball had earlier predicted in their pre match analysis that Manchester United would win in an effort to bounce back from their recent defeat from Aston Villa.

And true to their analysis, Manchester United claimed the victory, re-enforcing their strength and exposing Newcastle United’s weak form away from home.
Manchester United shared the result of the match on their official X handle;
A BIG WIN ON BOXING DAY! 🔥🥊
— Manchester United (@ManUtd) December 26, 2025
From the start of the game, United showed intent as they controlled possession in the opening stages and created early chances through Mason Mount and Casemiro. Newcastle gradually grew into the game, using quick transitions and set pieces to test United’s defensive organization.
The breakthrough came for Manchester United in the 24th minute when Patrick Dorgu reacted quickest inside the box to volley home with his left foot following sustained pressure.

Dorgu was also solid defensively, producing several brave clearances and crucial blocks throughout the game. Newcastle United pushed very hard in the second half and almost came close through Lewis Hall, whose effort struck the crossbar, but United held firm under pressure.

Ayden Heaven delivered an outstanding performance at the back, helping preserve the clean sheet and ensuring United maintained control in the final stages.
With Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo sidelined due to injury, the squad still demonstrated strength and composure to secure the victory.
The victory gave Ruben Amorim an opportunity to stabilize his squad and build morale, as highlighted in Softfootball’s earlier report on his Christmas message ahead of the Boxing Day match.
The result also serves as a reminder of United’s remarkable Boxing Day record at Old Trafford, where they have not lost on any December 26th since 1978 while Newcastle endured another frustrating away outing.
