Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Premier League Matchday 19 at Old Trafford. The Red Devils went ahead through Joshua Zirkzee in the 27th minute, but Wolves stunned the home crowd with a first-half stoppage-time equaliser from Ladislav Krejčí.

The Red Devils missed the chance to build momentum after recent improvement, following pre-match optimism around a potential run of form, as highlighted by SoftFootball in their preview of United’s bid for back-to-back wins against Wolves.

United came into the game hoping to follow up their Boxing Day success over Newcastle United, a win that had raised optimism around Ruben Amorim’s side. However, despite controlling possession and territory for long spells, familiar issues in front of goal resurfaced, allowing Wolves to escape with a valuable point.

Amorim stuck with his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, and United started brightly. Benjamin Šeško hit the post, and Patrick Dorgu forced a deflection wide as pressure mounted. Zirkzee eventually broke the deadlock when his flick rebounded off Krejčí before a deflected effort beat José Sá.

Wolves responded with growing confidence, and after surviving further scares, Krejčí redeemed himself by rising to guide a powerful header past Senne Lammens in the 45th minute.

The second half followed a similar pattern. United pushed forward with intent, creating chances through Šeško, Diogo Dalot and Manuel Ugarte, but Wolves’ goalkeeper José Sá produced several key saves to keep his side level. At the other end, Wolves threatened on the counter, forcing last-ditch defending from Dalot to deny Jhon Arias.

Amorim turned to his bench, introducing Jack Fletcher, Leny Yoro and Bendito Mantato in search of a breakthrough. Late drama arrived in the 91st minute when Dorgu thought he had scored the winner, only for the offside flag to deny United. Wolves’ resilience ultimately paid off, ending a long losing streak across all competitions.

The result, which was shared by Manchester United on their official X account, does little to ease their inconsistency under Amorim. For Wolves, the point represents just their third of the season, but it offers renewed belief. For United, it feels like another missed opportunity to climb the table and turn promise into progress.
