Manchester United defender Maguire says “I am ready to give everything” as new season dawns

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has relayed his voice that he is ready ahead of the new season, Softfootball can report.

Maguire, in his words, said he is preparing to embark on his seventh season at Manchester United with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment, as the experienced defender looks to play a meaningful role in what he hopes will be a successful campaign under manager Ruben Amorim.

Now 32, Maguire joined United from Leicester City on 5 August 2019 in a then-world-record deal for a defender. Over six years later, he remains a key figure within the squad, having collected Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup winners’ medals and worn the captain’s armband for multiple seasons.

Despite challenges in recent campaigns, including injury setbacks, loss of starting status, and intense public scrutiny, Maguire has continually fought to stay relevant at Old Trafford.

Last season was far from smooth for United as a team, but Maguire still managed to provide some memorable contributions. His late-match appearances as a makeshift striker became an unlikely storyline, with the highlight moment being his extra-time winner against Lyon in the Europa League. It was a goal that reflected both his determination and his versatility, even during a frustrating year.

As the Reds look ahead to 2025/26, Maguire is optimistic but grounded in his ambitions.

Maguire told Manchester United TV in a scheduled interview this:

“I just want to be part of a successful team this season.

“Last season was a tough one for me, and for the club as a whole. But this year, there are no excuses. We’ve had time to prepare, and we’ve got to be ready.”

Maguire emphasised the difference made by a more structured pre-season under new boss Amorim. The Reds have spent a fortnight in the United States for Tour 2025, presented by Snapdragon, with a clear focus on tactical cohesion.

He continued:

“It’s refreshing, really. Instead of just running around cones, we’re working through tactical plans, in-game scenarios, and decision-making. It’s helped all of us get a clearer picture of what’s expected.”

Meanwhile, Softfootball had earlier written on Manchester United’s pre-season process, where Coach Amorim reflected and emphasised the need to work harder ahead of the new season.

This is a testament to what the duo of Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt have credited to Amorim and his coaching staff’ new tactical concept during the pre-season, which they believe is shaping the team for the upcoming season.

The real test for Manchester United begins when Arsenal comes to Old Trafford for the Premier League opener. The Gunners, last season’s runners-up, will provide an immediate examination of United’s progress under Amorim. But for Maguire, it’s a challenge worth embracing.

He added:

“We feel in a good place. Now we’ve got to go and show that on the pitch. The season’s about to start, that’s when it matters. That’s when it all counts.”

But before then, United has a final pre-season match this Saturday at Old Trafford in the inaugural Snapdragon Cup, with Italian side Fiorentina as the opposition.

“This pre-season has been different. It’s been tough physically, but also heavily focused on tactics. We’ve spent more time understanding how we want to play. The manager’s been really clear last season, there wasn’t enough time on the training ground.
