Man United aim for back-to-back wins against Wolves

Softfootball understands that Manchester United will be looking to make it back-to-back wins when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

After defeating Newcastle United 1-0 on Boxing Day, the Red Devils will be hoping to end 2025 with another three points against the Premier League’s bottom side.

Our final match of 2025 approaches

Amorim’s men have slowly found some rhythm at Old Trafford, winning five of the last eight games, and fans will be hoping that run continues against Wolves, a team they have beaten eight times in the last 11 meetings.

Earlier this month, United absolutely crushed them 4-1 at Molineux, which should give them confidence.

Wolves, meanwhile, remain deep in crisis. They haven’t won a league game all season, and it’s looking more and more likely that the team is heading for relegation. Pride and avoiding a record-low points total are basically all that’s left to play for.

Team News

United are still missing a few players through injury or international duty. Fernandes is out, Mason Mount is a doubt after being subbed at halftime against Newcastle, and Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt, and Harry Maguire are also sidelined. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui are away at AFCON.

Patrick Dorgu should feature again on the right wing, having been involved in two goals in his last two matches. Benjamin Šeško will lead the line, likely supported by Matheus Cunha.

Wolves are missing center-backs Toti Gomes and Emmanuel Agbadou, plus Rodrigo Gomes, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Marshall Munetsi, Daniel Bentley, and Tawanda Chirewa. Hugo Bueno is back from injury, and Tolu Arokodare could partner 18-year-old Mateus Mane up front.

Possible Lineups

Manchester United:
Lammens; Yoro, Heaven, Martinez; Dalot, Casemiro, Ugarte, Shaw; Dorgu, Cunha; Sesko

Wolverhampton Wanderers:
Sa; Mosquera, S. Bueno, Krejci; Doherty, J. Gomes, Andre, H. Bueno; Hwang, Mane; Arokodare

Softfootball’s Prediction

Softfootball predicts a lot of goals in this game with United’s defensive crisis, and Wolves’ backline has been leaking all season. Wolves might put up a fight, but with so many setbacks and low confidence, an upset seems very unlikely. The hosts should scrape the win, even if it’s messy.

Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
