Making a statement as he said his byes to the fans, De Jong was full of tears. He said:
This is not a goodbye but a goodbye.
I will remain attached to this wonderful club, the most beautiful club in the Netherlands, for the rest of my life.
It was fantastic. Eight seasons. Five times champion, won the cup and numerous Johan Cruijff-Schalen. Unforgettable nights played in the Champions League, what an atmosphere. Goosebumps.
I now choose a different challenge, I am an adventurer. Someone who, together with his family, seeks adventure. Someone who wants to experience the culture and sport in other countries. And hopefully achieve success there as well.
PSV is forever in my heart. It is my home, your fans have always supported me in good times and bad. I gave everything I had in me for you guys and the club, every game 100 percent. Thanks to your support and passion we have experienced wonderful times together!
I want to thank your fans, all my teammates, people from the staff, management, all employees and volunteers. Times are very good now as PSV’er, together make sure it stays that way. Support each other and fight for each other. Because Unity Makes Power. Goodbye.
De Jong joins a list of exits in PSV. Nao Lang, Malik Tillman, Johan Bakayoko and Walter Benitez are among those who have left the club.
