Lobi Stars have officially unveiled Finnish tactician Mika Lönnström as the club’s new head coach.
Softfootball understands that Lönnström was presented to players, officials and members of the media during a brief ceremony held at the club’s training facility, McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi, on Tuesday.
Speaking at the unveiling, Lobi Stars Chairman, Philip Nongu, welcomed the new coach and expressed confidence in his ability to improve the team’s fortunes.
Nongu said the appointment marks an important step in the club’s efforts to move away from its current league position and become more competitive in the Nigeria Premier Football League. He added that Lönnström will work closely with the existing technical crew to achieve the club’s objectives.
The Finnish coach, who recently joined the Benue-based side, expressed his excitement at taking charge of one of Nigeria’s historic clubs.
Lönnström said he was honoured to become part of Lobi Stars’ rich football tradition and pledged to work tirelessly to deliver success for the club. He also promised to build a competitive team capable of meeting the expectations of the supporters throughout the season.
Lobi Stars will hope the arrival of the experienced Finnish tactician sparks a turnaround in form as they look to climb the NPFL table and revive their campaign.
