Liverpool vs Arsenal: Arteta ready to throw-in Eze but Saka is out, Odegaard doubtful

Ahead of the Super Sunday clash between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield, Mikel Arteta has given an update on his squad, Softfootball reports.

New signing Eberechi Eze may get his debut in midfield with Martin Odegaard struggling to be fit for the epic showdown while Arsenal star Bakayo Saka has been completely ruled out for the game.

Speaking in the press conference as captured by Arsenal’s official club media, Arteta expressed delight in how Eze has integrity into the Gunners squad.

He said:

“Really impressed with him. I heard a lot of things about him, I spoke to a lot of people about him. Really bright, very special energy, a special aura around him and he’s really willing. He’s already gathered a lot of information on the things that we want to see on the pitch. But especially, making sure that he has the freedom and the capacity to express his quality, which is the reason why we brought him here.”

Asked if he will start against the Premier League champions, Arteta replied:

“We have options in that position and that’s a good thing that we have this year. Let’s see, as I said, another day and I’m not going to give you any clues, obviously.”

Arteta went on to explain the injury of Bukayo Saka and why he won’t be available for the game.

He said:

“Bukayo is doing better, but he will be out for a few weeks unfortunately.

“No surgery. It’s not as bad as the previous one. Very unfortunate to pick it up because it’s on the other side. It’s an action that requires full power from him. Then, he clashes with the opponent, he needs to change pace again, and he felt something. So he will be out for a couple of weeks.”

Arsenal Captain, Martin Odegaard is another player with injury and rated a huge doubt for the Liverpool game but Arteta hasn’t ruled him out completely.

He said:

“We don’t know yet. He hasn’t trained yet, and if he does, it will be tomorrow. He’s doing everything he can, we’re doing everything that we can to make him available, but we’ll have to wait and see tomorrow.”

On a video, Arsenal shared on their official X handle, Arteta says he wants to win at Anfield.

Arsenal are yet to drop points or concede a goal this season as they defeated Manchester United 1-0 on the opening night of the Premier league and destroyed Leeds United 5-0 at the Emirates last week.
