Liverpool pays tribute to former manager Matt Beard who died aged 47

Liverpool have paid tribute to former manager Matt Beard, who died on Saturday at the age of 47, Softfootball reports.

The Reds have been thrown into mourning again as this news comes barely a month after Diogo Jota got involved in a fatal car crash that took his life and brother, Silva. Now, Beard, who led Liverpool to back-to-back Women’s Super League (WSL) titles in 2013 and 2014.

Liverpool in a statement via the club’s official media paid tribute to their former manager as a hardworking and very successful Coach. It read:

Liverpool Football Club is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of former LFC Women manager Matt Beard.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Matt’s family and friends at this devastating time.

Matt was not only an extremely committed and successful manager, he was also a person of real integrity and warmth, who will always be remembered with genuine fondness by everyone he worked with at the club.

…. Rest in peace, Matt.

Interestingly, Beard returned for a second spell at Liverpool in 2021 and left the club in February this year. He moved to Burnley in June but resigned after just two months in charge.

Beard, who must have witnessed Liverpool’s Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid in midweek, had previously Coached Millwall Lionesses, Chelsea, West Ham and National Women’s Soccer League side Boston Breakers, as well as an interim period in charge of Bristol City.
