Arne Slot has confirmed that Liverpool F.C. are actively engaged in contract talks with defender Ibrahima Konaté, whose current deal runs until June 2026. The development was shared in a quote reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle.

Arne Slot: “We are in talks with Ibou Konaté over new deal… so that tells you what we want”. “It’s clear we would like him to stay, negotiations are ongoing, let’s see where that ends. We wouldn’t be in negotiations if we didn’t want him to stay!”.

Softfootball understands that Konaté, who joined Liverpool for £36 million in 2021, has made 114 appearances for the Reds. The French international has earned widespread praise for his athleticism, composure, and strong defensive partnership with Virgil van Dijk. Securing his long-term future is viewed as crucial to maintaining defensive stability under Slot’s evolving system.

As part of their broader squad planning, Liverpool have also secured the signing of 20-year-old defender Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais F.C. in a deal reportedly worth around €60 million, with the youngster set to arrive in the summer. Slot expressed delight at landing the highly rated prospect.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to full training with Al Nassr FC and is available to face Al Fateh on February 14, after resolving internal concerns.
