Softfootball can confirm that Alexis Mac Allister has resumed full team training with Liverpool during their pre-season camp in Tokyo, marking a key milestone in his recovery from a multi-layered fitness issue that sidelined him for the final stretch of the 2024–25 campaign.
The Argentine midfielder had not featured in any of Liverpool’s preseason friendlies and was absent for the Reds’ final two league matches in May.
However, following sustained individual work and structural rehabilitation, Mac Allister is now back in group sessions and edging closer to match readiness ahead of the new season.

Mac Allister told Liverpool FC media on Tuesday about his preparations to resume football activities.
He said:
“It has been a long time, a difficult time, because it’s never nice to be injured.
“But now I’m feeling good. It’s just about building up my fitness because the boys have had a good preseason; they’re definitely in a different physical shape, so I have to get used to it again.”
The nature of the injury had been unclear in recent months, but Mac Allister revealed it stemmed from multiple overlapping physical issues.
He explained:
“It’s hard to explain because it’s not just one spot. It’s like two or three different things I’d been struggling with for a couple of months.
“At the end, we found the solution: we’ve been working a lot in the gym, on my structure.”
Asked about his availability for the Community Shield and the season opener under new head coach Arne Slot, the No. 10 sounded confident, he said:
“Yeah, hopefully. That’s the idea. I’m training well and I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine for the start of the season.”
Mac Allister returns to a Liverpool squad that looks retooled following several summer arrivals. While he will face fresh internal competition, his blend of composure, control, and tactical discipline remains integral to Slot’s midfield plans.
Softfootball had earlier reported that Liverpool is highly interested in getting Newcastle’s Alexander Isak ahead of the new season. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool is now shifting their focus to Newcastle United’s Isak and is ready to make a record-breaking bid.
Despite Al-Hilal offering a staggering £130 million fee and a weekly salary of £600,000, Isak has rejected such a mouthwatering deal to join Liverpool. Liverpool plays Yokohama FM on Wednesday, 30th July, as they seek to come back from a 4-2 defeat to Milan.
