A disappointing first half and a disappointing end of the game. Again, once again, credit to Palace because, one of them was the Community Shield, but it’s not the first time we lose against them, although the first time was on penalties. We have played each other four times since I’m here – we have both won once, twice it was a draw, although the penalties they won. It tells you how difficult it is for us – but not only for us, for every team in the league – to beat them. That’s what we could see today.

They deserved to be up two or three goals in the first half; created three, four very good chances and we were lucky that Alisson [Becker] helped us. I think the second half was a much better performance from us. We created chances, which not many teams do here or if Palace play away. It’s very hard to create a chance. We created quite a lot. It took a while for us to score a goal. And when we did, [there was] limited time to play. And to concede another set-piece goal is then as disappointing as our first half was.

Defending Champions, Liverpool knew they were in for a tough game as the Eagles were unbeaten in 18 games in all competitions.

Senegal international Ismaila Sarr gave Crystal Palace an early lead in the ninth minute of the match as the home side dominated the encounter and Liverpool had goalkeeper Alisson Becker and the woodwork to thank as they were spared further punishment.

The Brazilian goalkeeper saved superbly from Yeremy Pino, Daniel Munoz and Jean-Philippe Mateta in multiple attacking moves. Mateta also hit the woodwork with a superb shot but it stayed at 1-0.

At the other end Palace keeper Dean Henderson who was the hero during Crystal Palace Community Shield win saved brilliantly from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz from point-blank range.

British record £125m signing Alexander Isak, making his full Premier League debut for Liverpool also shot wide with only Henderson to beat.

However, Liverpool maintained their habit of scoring late as Italian Federico Chiesa’s 87th-minute equaliser looked like to have salvaged a point at Selhurst Park.

But former Arsenal forward, Nketiah connected a ball at the far far post in the seventh minute of added time to score the winner and send the fans into frenzy.

Crystal Palace are now second on the Premier League log after the win while Liverpool remain top with 15 points.
