Softfootball can confirm Liverpool FC are closing in on a full agreement with Ibrahima Konaté over a new contract, with negotiations progressing positively, according to Fabrizio Romano via his x handle.

Romano posted:

Liverpool are now closer to reaching full agreement with Ibrahima Konaté over new contract. Negotiations are advancing well after Real Madrid talks stopped in November, with Liverpool now progressing. Not done/sealed yet but #LFC confident.

Konaté, whose current deal runs until June 2026, had been eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs since January, but has not engaged in talks elsewhere as discussions with Liverpool intensified.

The development comes shortly after Virgil van Dijk reacted to Liverpool’s 2–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, stressing the importance of the return leg at Anfield.

Talks have advanced significantly in recent weeks, with Liverpool growing increasingly confident of securing the defender’s long-term future after interest from Real Madrid cooled back in November.

Liverpool now appear to be making key progress both on and off the pitch as they plan for the future.
