Liverpool Aim to End Losing Run as Frankfurt Search for Stability in UCL Clash

3 Min Read

It’s been a rough few weeks for both sides, and Wednesday’s clash at Deutsche Bank Park feels bigger than it should this early in the Champions League season. Eintracht Frankfurt are wobbling, and Liverpool are almost unrecognisable.

The Bundesliga team will hope home advantage helps them steady the ship, while the Reds just need to stop the bleeding after their fourth straight defeat, a 2-1 loss to Manchester United. Earlier this month, they also fell short against Chelsea, a game remembered for Caicedo’s thunderbolt and Estevão’s late strike, as reported by Softfootball.

Frankfurt’s form hasn’t been much better. After smashing Galatasaray 5–1 in their Champions League opener, they were humbled by Atlético Madrid by the exact same scoreline. They have won just one of their last five matches and conceded at least twice in six of their previous seven. Still, their home form in Europe gives them a reason to believe—four straight wins in front of their fans could count for something.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have slipped into unfamiliar territory. Arne Slot’s men are in their worst run since 2001. Even so, they have taken 13 wins from their last 15 group-stage fixtures, a record that offers some hope. Slot gave an encouraging fitness update on Alexander Isak, and the Swede is expected to start again up front.

Team News

Jonathan Burkardt has been Frankfurt’s bright spot lately, scoring seven in six games, including three in Europe. The German side have no new injuries and will likely keep faith with their usual 4-2-3-1 setup. For Liverpool, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister face late fitness checks, while Hugo Ekitike could feature against his old club if Slot opts to rotate the attack.

Possible Lineups

Eintracht Frankfurt (4-2-3-1): Santos; Kristensen, Koch, Theate, Brown; Larsson, Skhiri; Doan, Uzun, Bahoya; Burkardt.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Szoboszlai, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike.

Eintracht Frankfurt shared a live stream of their final training session on their official X account, building hype for tomorrow’s UEFA Champions League home match against Liverpool.

Softfootball’s Prediction

It’s hard to trust either defence right now, so goals feel inevitable. Both sides will create chances, but Liverpool’s experience in European nights should just see them edge it.

Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 2–3 Liverpool.

One thing is almost certain: this won’t be dull. Expect chaos, chances, and plenty for both managers to think about when the final whistle blows.
