Lisandro Martínez will miss tonight’s game vs Everton with calf discomfort. Medical tests show minor issue and he’s expected back in training this week, as The Athletic reports. United have 7 wins in 18 games without him, 5 in 9 when he started.

The club decided to leave the Argentine out as a precaution, with medical tests showing the issue is minor and not considered serious.

According to Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic, Martínez is expected to return to first-team training later this week. The coaching staff are simply managing his workload to avoid any risk of aggravating the problem, especially after his recent run of games.

His importance to United has been clear since his return from a long-term injury. With Martínez starting, United have won 5 of their last 9 matches, compared to just 7 wins in 18 games without him.

Softfootball reported that Before this setback, he had started 10 consecutive matches and recently reached 100 appearances for the club during the 2–2 draw against Burnley.

He has also completed full 90-minute performances against Manchester City, Tottenham, and West Ham, underlining how key he has become at the heart of the defence.

This calf issue is a minor bump in the road after his long recovery from a serious ACL injury suffered in February 2025. Martínez returned to full training in October 2025, was declared match-ready by Ruben Amorim in November, and has steadily worked his way back into being a regular starter.

For tonight’s game, reports suggest that Leny Yoro will step in to deputise in central defence. United will be hoping Martínez recovers quickly as they look to maintain defensive stability during this crucial run of fixtures.
