Lionel Messi Shares Excitement About Future at Miami Freedom Park

Inter Miami have announced that the club captain, Lionel Messi has signed a new contract extension with Inter Miami CF that keeps him at the club till December 31, 2028, Softfootball reported.

Messi extension marks another milestone for Inter Miami’s ambitions and it reaffirms their growing legacy. The Argentine star who joined the club in 2023 has been the heart of Inter Miami’s transformation, making the club one of the most recognized football institutions in North America.

The club through its verified X account confirmed the news of Messi extension. They shared:

Messi expressed his excitement with continuing with the club. Speaking via the club media, he said:

It makes me really happy to stay here and continue with this project that has become a beautiful reality — playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park.

He also shared his excitement about the club’s move to its new home, saying:

Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy. We’re all really excited about the moment when we can finally play at Miami Freedom Park. It’s going to be something very special to play at home in such a spectacular stadium.

Inter Miami’s Managing Owner Jorge Mas also described Messi’s contract extension as a milestone for the club. He said:

We promised our fans that we would dream big to build an iconic club. A club that represents the passion, hard work and dedication of all those that came before us to create a Miami built on dreams.

Leo signing through 2028 is an ode to our amazing city. We very much look forward to writing new chapters at our stadium at Miami Freedom Park. Together we will continue building and dreaming

Co-Owner of the club David Beckham also praised Messi’s commitments and impact to the city and the club, stating:

Our vision was to bring the best players to Inter Miami and to this city, and that’s exactly what we have done. We brought the best player to have ever played the game to our city. That shows our commitment to Miami, but it also shows Leo’s commitment to the city, to the Club, and to the game.
He’s still as committed as he’s ever been and he still wants to win.

As owners, to have a player that loves the game as much as he does, and who has done as much for the game in this country and to inspire the next generation of young talent as he has, we feel very lucky

He claimed the 2025 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi, finishing the regular season with 29 goals. The Inter Miami CF captain sealed the award in stunning fashion on Decision Day, scoring a hat-trick in a 5–2 victory over Nashville SC. The club via its X handle congratulated the player on his won.
