Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has revealed that Belgium international, Leandro Trossard was never close to leaving Arsenal last summer despite heavy transfer speculations surrounding the player, Softfootball reports.

Trossard opened scoring when Arsenal beat Tottenham 4-1 in the North London derby. Gunners strengthened their position on the table with that victory and despite a sublime goal by Richarlison, it was Eberechi Eze that grabbed all the headlines with his hat-trick.

Fabrizio Romano shared an interview on his official X handle of Arteta talking about the Leandro Trossard situation. He said:

Leandro Trossard was never gonna leave last summer. I was very clear, no chance. I know the player that he is, surrounded with the players that we have, he’s a player that is going to make a difference for us.

Dortmund had an interest in Trossard last summer after selling Jamie Gittens to Chelsea but nothing came out of it. The Belgian has stayed back at Arsenal and that decision has paid off as he is a regular starter now for Arteta’s side.

Trossard has 10goals contribution this season in all competitions, scoring five and assisting five. His form has made him a candidate to represent Belgium for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Arsenal face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the Match-Day 5 of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday and Trossard will once again be in contention to start for the Gunners.
