The Bayern Munich striker addressed the captaincy question in an interview, making clear he trusts his performances to speak for themselves regardless of the decision.
Softfootball gathered that Kane framed his England place as something earned rather than assumed, saying:
That’s going to be Thomas’s decision for sure, but I always feel like I’m picked for England on form and on credit. It’s not just because I’m England captain that I’m here . I’ve come in off the back of my best season individually, and this season I’ve started well too. I feel like I’m at the peak of my game for club, which is where you get picked from to play for your country.
Captain or not, Kane made one thing clear: representing England is never something he takes lightly.
